Project Title: The Realest You (Trailer)
Objective:
This project focused on delivering polished, character-driven sound design and comprehensive audio clean-up for the trailer of the documentary The Realest You. The goal was to enhance clarity, presence, and emotional impact while supporting the film’s celebration of drag culture. We aimed to shape a sonic identity that complemented the composer’s music by introducing an ’80s-inspired audio quality, reinforcing both the period influence and the trailer’s stylistic confidence.
Sound Design and Audio Approach:
From the outset, sonic texture and character were central to the process. We focused on refining dialogue and production audio through detailed clean-up, ensuring voices felt present, expressive, and intimate without losing their natural energy. Careful noise reduction, EQ shaping, and dynamic control were applied to maintain authenticity while elevating overall production quality.
The sound design was developed to mirror the aesthetic of 1980s music and media, subtly incorporating tonal coloration, spatial treatment, and textural accents associated with that era. These elements were used sparingly to enhance transitions, emphasize performance moments, and support the trailer’s rhythm, allowing the sound design to sit cohesively alongside the score rather than compete with it.
Particular attention was paid to pacing and impact. Sound elements were shaped to reinforce editorial beats, helping moments land with confidence and clarity. This approach ensured the trailer felt vibrant and intentional, with sound playing an active role in shaping tone and momentum.
Logo Animation Sound:
A bespoke logo stinger was created for the production company, designed to reflect the overall quality, confidence, and professionalism of the brand. The stinger carried subtle ’80s tonal influence while remaining clean and contemporary, providing a strong and memorable closing impression.
Tone and Style:
The sound was bold yet refined—stylized with an ’80s-inspired character while remaining clear, modern, and emotionally grounded. It was crafted to celebrate identity, performance, and confidence, aligning with the documentary’s subject matter and visual style.
