Project Title: Metamorphosis

Objective:
This project focused on creating an expressive and immersive music and sound design palette for the experimental abstract dance film Metamorphosis. The goal was to support the film’s exploration of nature, transformation, and the cycle of life through sound. We aimed to create an evolving sonic environment that would mirror physical movement and organic change, allowing audio to function as an integral narrative element rather than a traditional score.

Sound Design and Music Approach:
From the outset, texture and movement were central to the creative approach. We drew inspiration from natural processes and environmental sound, utilizing layered ambiences, organic timbres, and evolving tonal elements to reflect growth, decay, and renewal. Field-recording–inspired textures, processed natural sounds, and subtle musical motifs were blended with abstract synthesis to create a soundscape that felt both elemental and fluid.

The music and sound design were composed to align closely with the dancers’ physicality and the film’s visual rhythm. Swelling textures and gradual harmonic shifts underscored moments of expansion and transformation, while sparse, minimal elements allowed space for breath and stillness. Each sonic layer was shaped to respond to motion, reinforcing the connection between sound, body, and environment.

To further enhance the organic quality of the film, we paid close attention to dynamic evolution and tonal detail. Sounds were allowed to emerge, morph, and dissolve naturally, avoiding rigid structures in favor of continuous transformation. This approach created a rich and immersive auditory experience that echoed the cyclical themes of nature and life present in the film.

Logo Animation Music:
The closing titles featured a distilled version of the film’s core sonic textures, gently resolving into a calm, ambient conclusion. This provided a reflective final moment, reinforcing the film’s themes of renewal and continuity.

Tone and Style:
The sound and music were abstract yet grounded—rich in texture, organic in movement, and emotionally resonant. They were crafted to complement the film’s experimental nature while deepening its connection to natural cycles and embodied motion.

Delivered in stereo format for gallery, online, and festival exhibition.
Mixed to emphasize depth, spatial movement, and textural clarity.
